Vietnam Post launches Stamp Set "Vietnamese Painting: Hanoi Old Quarter"
On the occasion of the Birth Centenary of Artist Bui Xuan Phai, on September 1, 2020, the Ministry of Information and Communication issued the stamp set "Vietnamese Painting: Hanoi Old Quarter” with 2 stamps and 1 block to introduce the famous artworks attached to his name.

Stamp set is designed overflow, stamp size: 50 x 40 (mm); Block size: 90 x 67 (mm) designed by Designer Pham Quang Dieu and To Minh Trang, Vietnam Post. The stamp sets are available on the public postal network from September 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022.
Bui Xuan Phai is one of the last generation painters at the Indochina Fine Arts College, at the same time with the famous artists: Nguyen Sang, Nguyen Tu Nghiem, Duong Bich Lien, who had a great influence on the development of modern Vietnamese fine art. He specializes in oil painting and is passionate at the theme “Hanoi Old Quarter”. When he was born, his creativity was discovered and admired by the public audience and named his painting Street Phai (Pho Phai).
Street paintings by Bui Xuan Phai are both ancient and very realistic, clearly shows the soul of Hanoi Old Quarter in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The colors in Phai's paintings often have bold contours to make streets not only real but also closer to the people, from the surface to the landscape contains inside deep souls. Watching his old quarter paintings, viewers realize that the artist conveyed his memories, nostalgia and sadness on each painting, as a signal of changes and disappearance of each the house roof, each person carries their old souls.
A part from old quarters, he also painted other topics successful, such as: Cheo folk, portrait, countryside, nude, still life... Many paintings by Bui Xuan Phai were awarded in national and Hanoi exhibitions. He painted on canvas, paper, wooden board, even newspaper when he didn't have enough materials.
