Vietnam Post and Vietnam Farmers' Union cooperate to promote digital economy development in agriculture and rural areas

In the morning of October 21,2021, Vietnam Post held a meeting with representatives of the Vietnam Farmer’s Union (VNFU) to encourage and support Vietnamese farmers setting up on E-commerce platforms, which helps them to have a new direction to the comsumption of argiculture products. Mr. Nguyen Kien Cuong, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Post and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Vice Chairman of VNFU Central Committee chaired the meeting.

The meeting content is about the comprehensive cooperation between 2 organizations to further support farmers to understand the benefits of doing business in the digital environment, particularly using an agriculture e-commerce platform Postmart.vn as a priority choice for many argiculture households around the country. Since July 2021, Postmart.vn has sold more than 6000 tons of argi-products, helping farmers to have stable production and life, espcially during the peak season in the Covid-19 pandemic in some provinces.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Kien Cuong said: "Implementing the policy  of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on supporting people in digital transformation to promote the development of the digital economy in agriculture and rural areas, Vietnam Post have implemented synchronously many solutions to create the digital environment for farmers. With its strengths, Vietnam Post has supported farmers to access new business methods by e-platform Postmart.vn and until now, there are over 700,000 agriculture households nationwide.

“Vietnam Post has great digital infrastuctures and a system of world-class warehouses. We are willing for the sustainable cooperation with VNFU in the development of digital indicator maps for agri-products; implementations of safe agricultural supply chain; provision of supporting services in the digital transformation and listing the argi-products on the platform…” – Executive Vice President of Vietnam Post said.

Highly appreciating the activities of Vietnam Post, Vice Chairman Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh expressed: “Farmers supported by digital technology to comsume agricultural products on e-commerce platform will be greatly cut down the intermediate stages and increase the value of Vietnamese agri-products. Vietnam Post has a valuable database system, making the great condition to connect and cooperate in diverse and flexible consumption methods. It also monitors the quality of regional agricultural products through local branches and professional associations. At the same time, it supports to improve the capacity of applying the digital economy for farmers, officials and members…”.

According to Vice Chairman Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, the Vietnam Farmers' Union will assign the Farmers and Rural Support Center to act as the focal point to discuss with Vietnam Post about specific contents of the cooperation project. Based on the cooperation project, both organizations will figure into detailed work plan, then carry out at the local units, first pilot implementation of several models and then replicate.
