Introduction of Stamp Set "Viet Nam’s Seas and Islands (Set 2): Viet Nam Coast Guard Ship"
August 27, 2020. The Ministry of Information and Communications issued a set of stamps "Viet Nam Seas and Islands (Set 2): Viet Nam Coast Guard Ship" including 04 stamps and 01 block with face values of 4,000 VND, 4,000 VND, 6,000 VND, 10,000 VND and 19,000 VND. The stamp set is available on the public postal network from August 27, 2020 to June 30, 2022.
The stamp set introduces different types of ship with specific functions to perform their duties of coast guard patroling, searching and rescue, offshore patrolling and protecting Viet Nam’s seas and islands. The stamp set is designed with overflow frame, stamp size 43x32mm, block 150x100mm, by Designer Nguyen Du, Vietnam Post.
Stamp 4-1: Coast Guard Ship 1013 (K206).
Stamp 4-2: Coast Guard Ship 4033 (TT400).
Stamp 4-3: Coast Guard Ship 9004 (Rescue Tugboat).
Stamp 4-4: Coast Guard Ship 8003 (DN2000).
Block Stamp: Coast Guard Ship 8004 (DN2000).
As a coastal nation, Viet Nam possesses a total sea area of over 1 million square kilometers with a long coastline of 3,260 km, over 3,000 large and small islands, and two offshore archipelagos of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly). Viet Nam’s Communist Party, Government and People always recognize the special strategic importance of seas and islands in the national defense, construction and development.
Viet Nam Coast Guard is a specialized military force under the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, performing the function of management of security, order and safety and ensuring the observance of the laws of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and related international treaties to which Viet Nam is a member. Viet Nam Coast Guard Department under the High Command of Navy was established on August 28, 1998, marking the birth of Vietnam Coast Guard. In 2008, the Coast Guard Department was transferred to the Ministry of Defense. In 2013, the Coast Guard Department was renamed to the High Command of Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Areas was renamed the High Command of Coast Guard Areas under a decision of the Ministry of Defense.
Vessels of Viet Nam Coast Guard are equipped for different specific functions. Most of them are self-produced ships with the functions of patrolling, protecting coasts and islands, territorial seas, anti-robbery, searching and rescue ... The Coast Guard forces are grown up as today due to the development of ship fleet, from transformative torpedo ships K206, the TT120, 200, 400 ships, the coast patroling ships through the cooperation with countries providing Hamilton ships, Han River ships, and modern ships DN 2000 made by Vietnam.
With an aim to advertise the images of the country and people of Viet Nam through postal stamps, promoting combined strengths in all battlefields to protect the national sovereignty over seas and islands, the Ministry of Information and Communications issues 03 stamp sets with the theme: "Viet Nam’s Seas and Islands" in the years: 2018, 2020 and 2022.
Previously, the first stamp set with the theme of Vietnam’s Seas and Islands was “Sea Creatures” was issued in 2018 in Khanh Hoa.
